Staging Your Home

Selling a home can be a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. Staging your home can help prospective buyers visualize themselves in the home, can raise asking prices, and can even shorten the time your home stays on the market. Here are some simple tips to help your home seem more inviting to prospective buyers.

Make it stand out.

To make a space feel special, it should feel like a home to a potential buyer. They are looking at many properties, and while the technical aspects play a key role, helping them make an emotional attachment can help too. Adding some sweet touches can help potential buyers start to bond to the space. If a buyer can picture themselves living there; it is easier to wrap their head around making the investment into your property.

Declutter.

While real homes do get lived in, a clean, open space is key to making your home seem appealing. While a few homey touches are nice, plan to organize and clean up as much unnecessary stuff as possible in order to give a sense of more space in your home. This means getting rid of unnecessary furniture and surface clutter in order to keep the decorations tasteful and minimal.

The living room is the most important room to stage.

Think about letting as much natural light in as possible, hiding cords and wires, and decluttering surfaces of personal effects.

If you have the budget and time, you can think about updating light fixtures to add more light into the space, putting a fresh coat of paint on the walls, or adding flowers, new throw pillows, or other simple touches to freshen up the space.

The master bedroom is also key.

Next in line of importance is the master bedroom. Keep your bedding fresh, and tuck away personal affects. Spruce up your bed with pillows and throw blankets, or a tray as pictured on the left.

Do your best to keep the closet organized and not overcrowded. Simply purchasing matching hangers can help add some uniformity and neatness to your space.

The kitchen comes next in the list.

The same general idea carries through; declutter & clean, adding just a few neutral touches that could make a home seem inviting.

Make sure to clean your refrigerator inside and out, and keep it decluttered when showing your home. Clear counters of receipts and other odds and ends, and make sure the space feels bright and open.

Consider painting or refinishing cupboards if needed, or replacing hardware or faucets to give the space a quick facelift.

Keep in mind; simplicity is key. A deep clean and simply putting away clutter will get you a long way!
